About 250 years ago in Chosun dynasty, Korea. Lee is an ingenious young man, the son of the powerful second vice-premier; but with limitations to his social advancement since he was born out of wedlock. He lives at his friend’s book store enjoying the new amazing products of western civilizations and culture, caring little for his way to success. But Lee’s life is turned up-side-down when Lee’s father is eliminated by a political enemy, the first vice-premier named Cho, and sent away on an exile. With an extreme lust for power and money, Cho also s the loyal superintendant Baek who oversees the country’s storage of ice, a valuable commodity in a time before the invention of modern day refrigerator which is kept in an ice house built with stones, and sends him away on exile as well. Getting rid of anyone who stands in his way, Cho takes possession of all the power and commercial supremacy over ice. And with his command, more and more powerless commoners are forced to collect ice from cold winter rivers driving them to death. Unable to standby all the tyranny, Lee gathers a group of experts in various fields: financing, digging, explosives, underwater diving, intelligence, camouflage. And last but not least, Baek who knows the ice houses better than anyone else. With the help of the best experts, Lee executes his clever plans to rob the entire storage of ice which will be used for the crown prince’s birthday party that will be the beginning of Cho’s downfall.
